We had the second annual Armed Forces Day held in Carrickfergus. 26th June 2010

Armed Forces Day Parade
Departed from the Harbour car park at 12pm led by the Band of the Royal Irish and the parade winded its way through High Street to its dispersal point at Marine Gardens.

Armed Forces Day is designed to provide civilians with a chance to honour past and present military personnel.

The turnout was fantastic and the street line with people young and old.

On the same day at 1pm The Royal Irish Rangers old comrades associations and friends had a parade for the dedication of a new stone at the warmemorial to Ranger Cyril Smith QGM

RIR Cyril Smith, 21, was killed on October 24, 1990, by a so-called IRA proxy bomb or human bomb attack at the permanent border vehicle checkpoint at Killeen outside Newry

A civilian who was forced to drive the vehicle containing the bomb was injured in the explosion. Ranger Smith, the first member of the regiment killed after it had only recently been deployed to Northern Ireland for the first time, had six weeks left to serve in the army.

He was posthumously decorated with the Queen's Gallantry Medal.
More than 300 Royal Irish Rangers associations and friends turned out and paraded in Carrickfergus before the Royal Irish dedication parade which included the regimental band and pipes and drums.
